Formalizing an agreement announced last month, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles has signed over to Greece ownership of two ancient sculptures involved in a major cultural-heritage conflict, The Associated Press reported. The sculptures, a sixth-century B.C. votive relief and a fourth-century B.C. carved tombstone, are to be flown next month to Greece, which said they had been illegally taken from the country. A joint statement by the museum and the Greek culture ministry said deeds of ownership were signed in Los Angeles on Sunday. The statement added that talks on restitution of two other treasures from the Getty collection are to continue. The works are a gold wreath dating from about 400 B.C. and a marble statue of a young woman from the sixth century B.C.
